Air Date
Monday, December 4th, 2006 7/8c

NBC Press Release

AS SHOCKING DETAILS ABOUT ISSAC'S NYC NUCLEAR BOMBING PREDICTION ARE REVEALED, THE "HEROES" FACE TRAGEDY AND BETRAYALS -- The tragic events in Texas have sad, serious repercussions for many of the "heroes," their families and friends. Meanwhile, shocking details about the moments leading up to Isaac's predicted New York City nuclear bombing are revealed. Later, Isaac's newest painting has fascinating future implications for a hero in crisis. Suresh takes the first steps along his new path. Matt and F.B.I. Agent Audrey Hanson pursue a break in the Sylar case. Horrified by Jessica's recent actions, Niki makes a tough decision to protect her family.

Re-cap of Episode Chapter : “Fallout”

After Homecoming, Claire and Mr. Bennet return home. H.R.G. tells her that he has known for a long time about her ability. He also tells her that the man who killed Jackie has been taken care of and that because there are others out there like him Zach and Lyle need to be warned to remain silent.

Matt and Audrey visit the crime scene at Union Wells High School and determine that Sylar either had help escaping or disappeared.

Nathan visits an incarcerated Peter who tells him that he is suppose to stop the bomb in New York City. In a dream Sylar tells Peter, “How can you stop what’s coming? You don’t know a thing about power!”

Jessica shoots D.L. in the arm and attempts to shoot him in the head. But he is prepared for the second shot and phases out as it passes through his head. When Jessica comes to the car Micah and D.L. are gone.

H.R.G. confronts Sylar in a bunker inside the Primatech Paper Company. He calls him a watchmaker and Gabriel Gray. Sylar tells him that he “restores timepieces and that he sees how things work. How they tick.” H.R.G. responds by telling him that the infusion of so many alterations to his DNA has corrupted his mind. Sylar threatens Claire and tells H.R.G. that he will take her ability too. Outside the bunker Eden tells H.R.G. that she could persuade Sylar to kill himself and it would then all be over. H.R.G. tells her that her idea will have to wait.

Matt and Audrey attempt to interview Peter and when Matt tries to “read” him is confronted by feedback. Peter reads Audrey’s mind and tells Matt that he must protect Claire.

Mohinder returns to Brooklyn and attempts to warn the FBI that a serial killer is on the loose but is unsuccessful.

Isaac is sober and sketching in his book when Eden comes to see him. She tells Isaac that the cheerleader has been saved and that she is “going off the reservation.” She hands him a cell phone and a Primatech key card so that he can exit the building.

Hiro and Ando make their way to Union Wells High School but are too late. They believe that the cheerleader is dead but Hiro convinces Ando to continue. Hiro utters the new slogan, “Find the artist – stop the bomb!” Isaac then calls Hiro and tells them that they have to meet.

Audrey Hansen interviews Claire and H.R.G. as Matt tries to read their thoughts outside the room. What he doesn’t know is that the Haitian is also nearby blocking and/or deflecting his attempt to read minds.

Jessica and Niki argue over who has the power and who is stronger. Micah finds Jessica and tells her that D.L. is hurt.

Peter is visited by Claire and H.R.G. Mr. Bennet tells Peter that he owes him his life and that he promises to return the favor. Claire’s affect on Peter seems to be wearing off as he appears to become sick (probably from the five story fall.) Claire calls Peter her “hero.”

Jessica attempts to beat D.L. but he gets the drop on her and knocks her down. When Micah is hurt in the scuffle Nike comes back out.

Claire destroys the tapes that Zach had of her and her “accidents.”

At the Greyhound Bus Depot in Midland, Texas Isaac steps off a bus and finds Hiro and Ando waiting for him. Hiro shows him the comic that has not yet been printed. Hiro tells Isaac that he has seen him in the future and that he was lying on the floor dead. Isaac tells Hiro that the man who cuts off heads has been captured.

Claire comes home to find that her brother, Lyle can remember nothing about her ability.

Niki leaves D.L. and confronts a Utah State Trooper. She asks him to arrest her for murder.

Matt and Audrey are staked out at the Primatech paper Company. When H.R.G. and the Haitian come out of the building Matt tries to read them but can only manage a bloody nose and the word “Sylar.” They are otherwise closed off from him.

When Claire calls Zach to meet her she finds out that he too has been mind wiped.

H.R.G. brings food to Sylar who tells him that they are very much alike. They both like to collect special people. H.R.G. tells Sylar that they are going to “take him apart!”

Hiro, Ando and Isaac have taken a room at a hotel in Midland, Texas. Isaac has a blank canvas in front of him. Hiro tells him to concentrate. Isaac’s eyes turn white and he begins to paint!

H.R.G. receives a panicked call from Claire. She suspects that whoever is after her has wiped the minds of both Zach and Lyle. The Haitian enters her room and tells her that her father is the one wiping minds and that he was ordered to do the same to her. For some reason he feels that he should not follow that order and that Claire should pretend to have had her mind wiped.

Isaac finishes his painting and it seems out of place. The painting is of Hiro holding his sword in front of a dinosaur (T-Rex.) Hiro and Ando are confused as they think that Isaac can only paint the future.

Mohinder gets a call from Eden. She tells him that she needs to make things right and that she is going to kill the man who murdered his father.

When Eden confronts Sylar she tells him that she is going to place a gun in the food tray and that he will take it and kill himself with it. He breaks the glass and drags Eden to him with his mind and tells Eden that he is going to take her ability. When she points the gun at him he laughs and tells her that it will not work on him. Instead, she points it at herself and pulls the trigger. Sylar is amazed that she would kill herself to keep him from assimilating her power.

Nathan bails Peter out of jail but as they leave Peter passes out. In another dream he awakens in New York. He meets Mohinder who looks at Peter’s chest and runs away. Matt Parkman, D.L., Micah and Niki also run away from him after looking at his shirt.
Claire runs up to Peter but turns and runs away after looking at his shirt. Nathan, Simone and Isaac also show up as does Hiro and Ando. They all seem happy to see him until they look at his chest. Suddenly, Peter’s fingers begin to glow and then his entire body. Almost as if he was going to explode…

Peter wakes up on the ground outside the Sherriff’s office in Midland, Texas. He tells Nathan that the explosion is his fault. It seems that Peter is dying and Nathan does his best to try and revive him but…

To be continued…

The symbol appears to be a shadow (or an eclipse) of the human DNA helix. The intersecting horizontal lines seem to be markers where the DNA has mutated. This is possibly the super-genome or a “new” or “mutated” protein that identifies the Heroes. It can be found in too many locations (see below) to be a mere coincidence. Is it a calling card to those with special powers? And will they rally around it?

I’m going to start the conversation this morning because I have a lot to say about last night’s episode “Fallout”. First, many of us were under the impression that the exploding man in New York was going to be Theodore Sprague. It now appears that it was Peter Petrelli. But did Peter somehow get close to Ted just prior to this incident? And what was the significance of Peter looking down the street through the underpass?

Speaking of Peter, his dreams are getting more intricate. In episode 10 “Seven Minutes To Midnight” he dreamed of Nathan’s accident and knew that another vehicle was involved in the crash. In “Fallout” Peter dreams of Sylar saying, “How can you stop what’s coming? You don’t know a thing about power!” Still later, Peter dreams of the Heroes uniting in New York for some unknown purpose. Why do they all run away from Peter after looking at his shirt (or chest)?

During the exchange between Eden and Sylar we realize that Sylar may have been playing possum and gathering intelligence on H.R.G. and his group. He breaks through the plate glass rather easily and pulls Eden to him effortlessly when she comes to “persuade” him to kill himself. Sylar may be more powerful than we first believed but he is also not as powerful as he thinks. When he tells Eden that he is going to take her ability she commits suicide rather than let Sylar have her ability. The surprised look on Sylar’s face leaves no doubt that he had no idea she was going to kill herself and Eden knows how important the brains are to Sylar as she deliberately puts a bullet right through the center of hers.

Mohinder names Molly Walker’s father in this episode. When he is talking to the FBI he says that Sylar murdered James Walker of Los Angeles 9 days ago. There is no doubt that this is Molly’s father. He also gives us Charlie’s full name as Charlene Andrews.

I also thought that the meeting between Peter, Matt and Audrey was very telling. Matt tried to read Peter but got nothing but feedback yet Peter was able to read Audrey’s mind. It was a very interesting turn of Peter’s power and how quickly his mimic ability comes and goes. On the obverse, Peter becomes sick (probably from internal injuries sustained in his fall with Sylar) because Claire is no longer close enough to him to help heal his wounds.

Hiro and Ando are under the impression that the cheerleader has been killed but they are determined to continue with saving the world. During this discussion they use the computer programmer terminology “if, then” while discussing saving the cheerleader and saving the world. This seemed to me like a very realistic way of how two computer programmers might discuss this situation. Geeks all over the world were chuckling (including yours truly).

Question: If D.L. gets shot and phases out completely will the bullet fall to the ground? Or will it “travel” with him? His phasing out as a bullet enters his head was a very creative way of keeping from being hit. Obviously, he was more prepared for the second shot than the first.

The Haitian has been running around Odessa stealing memories for quite some time. He partially wiped the memories of Matt Parkman and Theodore Sprague. He has completely wiped Brody Mitchum’s mind. And he has cleared memories of Claire from Zach and Lyle and Mrs. Bennet memories many times. Seems like he is quite busy. But why does he not wipe Claire’s memory? What could be his motivation for not following H.R.G.’s directives? Does he know more than even H.R.G.? Evidently, he must have his own secret agenda. But will it be worth defying H.R.G. for?

"4) The effects of Claire’s powers are wearing off Peter who probably ahs internal injuries that could not have healed."

I reckon internal injures is an excellent guess as to Peter's sickness, but I'm wondering why his mimicking of her healing factor didn't return when she came to visit him.

She heals FAST, btw... All it would take is a minute or so to heal everything. So why does he seem to get MORE sick when he sees her again?

"Episode 11
Hiro does not teleport or stop time in this episode (but Peter may – dream sequence.)"

Do you think so? It seems like Peter is mimic someone else's powers yet again. It's not quite Issac's powers (there is an ep where he is 'in' the scene he paints, watching Claire from the roof as she runs from Sylar)
It's not quite Hiro's ability, since Hiro can meet himself in the future timeline, while Peter seems to 'be' his future self.

Minor Annoyances
-------------------
"Blood patterns"
I don't really watch CSI and that sort of show... how does a blood pattern show any of the stuff Audrey said it showed about Sylar? I think she just meant a 'trail of blood'?

Extra, Two-for-one Powers?
----------------------------
All the comments about Peter on the subsequent post are super. It seems Peter may have a dreaming prediction ability of some sort in addition to his mimic powers!

Hiro almost has two powers (time and teleport seems like cheating from a comic book perspective to call it "spacetime" and make two count for one, though of course as a physicist, I can say "yes, spacetime makes them both the same, so bending one is bending the other.")

Of course, Sylar has multiple abilities. Will we be seeing more of this?

Haitian
----------
Where do the memories go when he takes them away? Does he keep them for himself? Does he know what he is wiping?

To use Hiro-esque terminology: can he delete via some sort of deep packet inspection without knowing exactly what he is deleting, or does he delete as he is viewing the memories, allowing him to make his own copy? (hehehe... read/write permissions?)

If it is the second, and he is a Charlie-like ability to keep these stored memories somewhere (since memory is infinite), and then he is FAR more powerful than we ever imagined. He could "suck" the mind of a doctor and learn 30 years of education in an instant. =)

Very glad to hear from you again. We thought we'd lost you!

I was trying to come up with reasons why Peter was apparently sick. The only thing I could possibly come up with at the time was that his injuries from the fall with Sylar were not completely healed. (Claire not close enough to him long enough.) But reading your post I thought it possible that Peter may have come in contact with a Hero who was sick and mimicked his/her power and his illness. Not sure who that might be though or even if it’s true (just an errant thought.)

The reason I thought Peter may have stopped time (or shifted time) was because in his dream sequence New York is uninhabited except for people we already know to be Heroes. Where did everybody else go?

We also don't watch CSI or shows like it either - personally it insults our intelligence on so many levels. But I see what you mean. They should have said "trail" rather than "pattern."

The "two-for-one powers" is an excellent observation. Peter (mimic/dream) and Hiro (Time shift/teleport) have at least two powers and Sylar, of course, has multiple powers. I can't wait until they start developing them and learning how to use them more effectively. Heroes could be the very best program (and a phenomenon in the process) to ever be broadcast on TV if Tim Kring can figure out how to work the intricacies of everyone growing, understanding there abilities and using them to the maximum effect.

LOL - read/write permissions! Very funny but also a very good question. If the Haitian does "see" the memories that he is taking then perhaps he can "restore" them later on. However, I'm of the opinion that he does not view the memories, simply erases them and once that is done they are gone forever. (Say goodbye to Zach!)

Is anyone else going to watch "The Lost Room" this month? It looks interesting.

Yea, real life (mini holiday... it's 42C in Melbourne - 107.6F =D) intruded on my posting/reading this week, so I had to post later. That and I had to research and build a new PC, cause ibook's don't like Micro$oft products - and my lovely projects require VB *sigh*!

;-p thanks for missing me, though.

The Dream Sequence
-------------------
It certainly is very surreal. I guess it possible that Peter has everyone transported there, since he's the only hero who knows all of them - except for Niki and her family.

"where did everybody else go?"

Is a really good question. The people are gone, but the is absolutely no property damage to cars or buildings or anything... I guess it's not some "death ray" or something like that - open car doors indicate that people thought there was a threat to their lives and ran for it.

But what is human-sized (able to weave betwen the cars to scare people), able to walk around the city with no property damage (I say this, because every movie you see with people running away from something, that thing wrecks the city - Independence Day, King Kong, any superhero film, you name it) and having something able to scare off New Yorkers from their cars??

Even Spragg's radiation powers burn through things (though I'm pretty darn sure that doesn't happen, no matter what the radiation.)

I can't see anyone currently capable of scaring off people on a mass scale like that. I was thinking the Somuambulist kid doing something to Peter's dreams, but usually the kid provides answers, and you always see him in the dream, so that's a no-go too.

Characters
------------
So far, they've killed off most of the side characters I liked, but none of the main characters I didn't.

Imho, I'll trade Niki, DL and Micah for Eden, Charlie and Zach anyday. Claire and Zach are good together. It would bewsad if she was a loner.

And Eden and Charlie are too hot to die in such terrible ways. I'm holding out for Hiro to make everything right... after he gets his (non compensating, yet very phallically suggestive) sword and kills a T-Rex or two.

Heroes Break!
---------------
I don't think I was even aware that US series took Christmas breaks - we get everything a year later (they JUST started advertising for Heroes in Australia, my friends report), so we see the series without breaks.
This 'break thing' totally sucks! =(

I'll have to stave off boredom by watching the entire Battlestar Galactica series or something...

Sorry to hear about your work related issues. And we tend to forget that while we are in the middle of winter here many of our friends in other parts of the world are experiencing summer. We hope you resolve your work related issues and that it cools down, down under.

Peter’s dream sequence reminded me of what some have described as the neutron bomb. That which destroys people (flesh and blood) and causes EMP but does not destroy property. In Kurt Vonnegut's book “Deadeye Dick”, an American town, Midland City, Ohio, is depopulated because a neutron bomb detonates on the interstate. All the buildings are intact but the townspeople are buried under a parking lot and the area is fenced off by the military. Because of the lack of property damage, there is talk of using the fenced off town as a camp for Haitian refugees. This book sounded familiar to me on many different levels and for a lot of reasons.

Tim Kring said early on that a number of main characters would be killed (or sacrificed for the story). The choices they made are not the same ones I’d make. Charlie and Eden should have stayed! I’d also trade Zach and Niki for either one of our lost characters. I like Micah and D.L. though and think they should remain. Too bad we’re not writers for the show! LOL

Hiro’s sword… perhaps is the new quest (at least for one or two characters). I think he should call it Sylar Slayer (or something like it.)

The Heroes break here is until January 22nd! I’ll still be posting weekly and probably will watch The Lost Room in the interim. As for you… I’d suggest the DVD collection of “Firefly” and the accompanying movie “Serenity.” Great show and movie!

And yes, we missed your conversation!

Hiro's Sword:
--------------
'Sylar Slayer'... hehehe... I like it. He REALLY needs to get that sword soon, methinks.

How about 'Not Compensating'? I reckon it would be awesome if Conan or similar tanked-up fantasy film hero named their sword that. =)

Sylar playing 'Possum'
-----------------------
I didn't know that was a saying. Lol, but I also didn't see that coming at all. Who would have guessed he let them catch him?

Neutron Bomb
--------------
Fwoar, I didn't know very much about it. Sounds plausible, but I'm not convinced it was that.

Because if it WAS a neutron bomb, people would not have time to even open car doors - the blast radius expands at light speed - they'd be dead, right then and there.

Also, all the electronics (such as ticking billboards) would be EMP'd out.

Other stuff
-------------
Is that 'see the real heroes' nutjob posting in the comments again? I'm inferring from the deleted comments.

I agree that Hiro needs that sword. It defines him. While we’ve only seen Hiro with the sword once it was the coolest and most confident Hiro we’ve ever seen. “Sylar Slayer” was a jab at the posters looking for some spiritual name for the sword and my own love of swords and sorcery literature (especially Lord of the Ring, and its ilk.)

Sylar lying in the weeds was an assumption based on his previous actions. His existence lately has been to confront, kill and somehow assimilate the ability of someone else. It only makes sense that when confronted by someone with a power that can render him unconscious he’d want to posses it himself. It may not be what the writers wrote or intended but it seems very plausible to me.

The Neutron Bomb theory was just a theory to explain what might have happened but now that you mention the working electronics (light on taxi, construction sign, etc.) it couldn’t possibly be a Neutron Bomb. How about a Xyclonic Bomb (fictional, of course, but this IS television) which only disintegrates flesh?

As for deleted posts… I sometimes get the odd weirdo post but I usually allow it as long as it has something to do with Heroes. Occasionally, I get the advertisement post which I absolutely won’t allow in my comments. My readers, I think, are not interested in going to an on-line pharmacy or buying cialis while reading a blog about Heroes.

I love Heroes! It's great, the best show on NBC right now. I hang out all the time in TV.com forums talking about it now that it's on hiatus. There's a guy there working on a website, it's not all done yet, but it's Primatech Paper Company! You know, Mr. Bennet's Hero-Hunting Organization without Initials!
